Discover Gold
Queensland's first gold discovery was at Kilkivan in 1852 and
subsequent findings escalated into a gold rush in 1868.
Small pockets of gold are still found today around Kilkivan and visitors to the area can try panning for gold. 


Visit a working gold mine, only five minutes from Kilkivan. Kilkivan’s Prophet Gold Mine gives visitors the opportunity to pan for gold as well as viewing gold pouring demonstrations and taking a tour of the mine.

Kilkivan Township
Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Kilkivan Historic Town Walk. Immerse yourself in the history of Kilkivan and allow yourself to glimpse life as it used to be in Kilkivan as you wander through the Kilkivan and District Museum in the main street. Collectors will be delighted by Kilkivan’s antique stores.
Relax with a cold drink at the Kilkivan pub or visit the unique cafe and B & B housed in Kilkivan’s original bank which offers gift hampers of local produce and wines, sumptuous meals and comfortable accommodation.

Bicentennial Trail
With strong historical links to the old coach and stock routes, Kilkivan in the Gympie Cooloola region, is one of the few towns on the Bicentennial National Trail.

The trail follows many of the roads and tracks taken by the early pioneers from Cooktown to Victoria. This section of the trail is suited to trips with either horses, mountain bikes or on foot. Camp overnight at the Kilkivan facility complete with bathrooms and horseyards a short stoll from the township.
Kilkivan - Home of the Great Horse Ride

The Kilkivan Great Horse Ride  
The Kilkivan Great Horse Ride, held annually in April
is a spectacular event, attracting over 1,000 riders to it's
trek along parts of the Bicentennial National Trail.
Riders start from several diverse locations and enjoy a leisurely day of bush riding before parading through Kilkivan's main street - truly a magnificent sight. Their arrival in Kilkivan is celebrated with street entertainment and markets. The fun continues with a
campfire concert at the Kilkivan Showgrounds.

Mudlo National Park
Mudlo National Park, near Kilkivan, is ideal for bird watching. Take a scenic eight and a half kilometre drive north of Kilkivan to Mudlo Gap for excellent views. Enjoy a picnic beside Scrubby Creek. 

Part of the one kilometer Scrubby Creek walking track is wheelchair accessible, through dry rainforest, past giant figs and lovely creeks. Look out for Whiptail Wallabies and Wonga pigeons. Bird watchers will find plenty to interest them in the vicinity.

Goomeri Township
With delightful parks and many of the buildings constructed in the 1920’s, Goomeri is a quiet and pleasant place that boasts an agreeably relaxed old world charm. 

Goomeri is sometimes known as “Clocktown” due to its town clock built in 1939.  The memorial clock is a landmark in Goomeri and Goomeri’s Hall Of Memory, opened in 1926, is now a National Trust-listed building.

Goomeri Pumpkin Festival
The annual Goomeri Pumpkin Festival attracts over ten thousand people to the Goomeri in May each year. The Goomeri Pumpkin Festival is popular with locals and visitors alike for its fun family antics, including pumpkin races down the main street!
 

The highlight of the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival is “The Great Australian Pumpkin Roll” down Policeman’s Hill. Be sure to book your accommodation well in advance as this event is growing every year.

Kinbombi Falls

Kinbombi Falls

Kinbombi Falls is a popular nature retreat near Goomeri hewn out of a cliff made from huge waterworn boulders set in a conglomerate base, once the bed of an ancient river.  A well constructed walking track leads to a deep natural pool, at the base of dry falls. Turtles are regularly seen here.

A large picnic area with tables, barbecues, toilets and plenty of parking makes this a great spot for a family picnic on a hot summer’s day and an ideal starting point for an energetic climb or a more leisurely walk during the winter months.
